About Torrevieja
Torrevieja is about 50 kilometers south of Alicante airport and has great sandy beaches. Like many towns on the Costa Blanca Torrevieja used to be a tiny fishing village but it has grown to be one of the largest towns on the Costa Blanca due to the building boom before 2008.
Despite the huge numbers of expatriate residents who have made Torrevieja their home, or at least their second home, the town still retains a very Spanish feel unlike some of the towns further north on the Costa Blanca such as Javea.
Torrevieja is south of the large resort of Guardamar del Segura and north of Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, Cabo Roig, La Zenia and Villamartin.
The four main beaches of Playa del Cura, Playa de los Locos, Playa de los Náufragos and Playa de La Mata
are the main attraction coupled with the fantastic climate.
Torrevieja has a special reputation for being good for sufferers of arthritis because it is surrounded by gigantic salt lakes.
For sightseeing go to the local market which is held on Friday, walk around the harbour area which is lined with restaurants and visit the many bars in the El Baluarte area in the La Punta district
For historic sites visit the Church of La Inmaculata Conception, tour the S-61 Delfin submarine and visit the museum of sea and salt which forms one of the most important industries in Torrevieja.

Torrevieja Restaurants
Naturally most restaurants will be Spanish with the emphasis on seafood because of the availability of fresh fish and freshly caught shellfish.
Having said that there is a diverse range of nationalities living in Torrevieja and therefore you will find a bigger variety of different cuisines and types of food being served.
Many restaurants will cater for the tourist trade by serving internationally known dishes such as steaks and you will find plenty of Chinese restaurants (such as the Chinatown Restaurante), Italian restaurants, Indian restaurants and English (British) restaurants.
You will even find some Thai restaurants, French restaurants, German restaurants, Japanese (Sushi) restaurants, Belgian (Restaurante Delicado), Korean, Norwegian, Serbian, Croatian and Mexican restaurants!
For the best value eat out at lunch when most restaurants will have their Menu del Dia (menu of the day) which usually includes a starter, main course, dessert and often includes wine, soft drink or coffee. The prices on average start at about €8 per head.
