The Wok in Denia – “This was recommended so we trailed along there to sample the goodies. Really I was a bit disappointed, I found the food had been sitting in the servers for quite a long time and the sesame toast etc was a little tired and curled. It is a self service restaurant cobbled out of a car showroom or something equally enormous, with scary gold resin coated dragons everywhere and you can pick and choose dishes from a vast array of stainless steel bin things. However, I have been spoiled by waiter service and prefer food to come to me, not the other way around. It was okay but I would not go back. For those who yearn to queue for food, it’s on the main drag into Denia from Javea, shortly before ‘Casa’ on the right. There is another one in Javea near Barclays Bank roundabout.” Jan G. March ’08
“We really think the WOK Denia review by Jan G ’08 a little unkind. Patently it was not to the writers personal taste and can not compare to Silver Service or classy expensive restaurants. But to describe the scrupulously clean hot and requently replenished food trays as ‘Stainless Steel Bin Things’ etc. showed an unfair bias.
Our party were warmly and politely welcomed and tables quickly arranged to our liking. After drinks were served we made our first choice from the good selection of freshly prepared salads and soups. Some then chose from the many traditional dishes which were being continuously refreshed at the buffet or took fresh fish or meats from the chilled display to the chef for cooking before them in their favourite sauce.
One doesn’t have to choose between ready prepared or personally cooked dishes, you can mix and match as required. The duck panckes were very popular and the tray almost empty as I got there, before I even picked up the serving tongs a gently voice behind me announced “please, I have fresh duck here” it was yummee.
There must have been forty or more dishes to choose from and not one of our party was dissappointed with any of them. The cost just under 10 euros p.p. All said they would pay a return visit.” Graham B. February 2009
