Welcome to this guide to restaurants in Javea as well as bars and cafes located in the town of Javea, Costa Blanca, Spain. Javea is a popular tourist resort and being on the Costa Blanca coast you will almost always have a fish or shellfish dish on the menu. Because Javea has such a diverse population with many expats living here there are restaurants catering to many different tastes and nationalities. Cooking standards are usually high and usually include fresh local produce and ingredients.  

Obviously most restaurants in Javea will be Spanish restaurants many of which will also serve international food or cuisine. The Spanish restaurants will serve tapas, local recipes and dishes that are unique to the Valencian region such as Paella. Also expect many meals to be based around seafood dishes due to the Costa Blanca bordering the Mediterranean Sea.  

Although most Javea restaurants are Spanish owned and run, due to the cosmopolitan population and diverse nationalities of tourists visiting Javea you will also find many Chinese restaurants, Italian restaurants, Indian restaurants and restaurants serving English or British food. To a lesser extent you can also find Thai restaurants, French restaurants, German restaurants and Japanese (Sushi) restaurants.  

Look out for the Menu del Dia which most Javea restaurants offer, especially at lunchtimes. This is a great value menu which typically includes a starter, main course, dessert and often includes wine, soft drink or coffee.  

Do make sure you try the local cuisine and specialities of the Valencian region, these include fish stews such as cruet de peix and suc roig, fried dishes such as peix fregit as well as borreta de melva and bogamarins which are sea urchins.  

There are many rice dishes such as paella but also specific local dishes such as arròs al forn, arròs amb costra, arròs amb fesols y naps, arròs a la marinera, cocas and empanadillas.

Cella de Parilla Restaurant in Javea

Where: In Javea’s old town. Opposite the main church near the town hall. Go down the road/alley opposite the church where the leather shop is. Telephone: 96 579 3570.

“My absolute favourite restaurant in Javea. Run by Pepe who does all the cooking and does speak good English. Very small restaurant with I think about 6 tables. Obviously you must book. No set menu. Specialises in steaks and wines. The BEST steaks, they come from the middle of Spain and are hung for at least a month first. No chips! My favourite choice is the solo mio for 18.50 euros (fillet steak), the mixed grill is also wonderful. Superb hams and cheeses especially the goats cheese. You get little tasters before you start. Almost all the food is grilled including the vegetables. This is somewhere completely different with real charisma. Not open at lunchtimes although every so often there are wine tastings (at lunchtime) which come with tapas for 20 euros – well worth trying. Score 10 out of 10.” Anna B. March ’08

Javea Golf Course Restaurant

“Has a nice restaurant with lovely views over the golf course it is extremely reasonable ask them how the menu works as they have 2 prices one price if you are just having one course and another price if you are having a three course meal which comes with a glass of wine or beer.” Anne G. “The Golf Club is situated, oddly enough, in Benitachell or very close to it. The restaurant there has been messed about with by a number of people over the years but the present incumbent seems to be making a very good job of it. The del dia lunch is excellent value and always served with a variety of healthy vegetables. The bread is fresh and the view of the course is superb. Nice to smell fresh grass now and then I always think. Non members are welcome to use the restaurant and bar and the car park has been recently extended.” Jan G. March ’08

Amanacer Restaurant in Javea

Location: Take the mountain road from Javea to Denia. Just before the road levels out, take the right turn onto La Plana. After lunch you can continue to the lighthouse to admire the amazing view.

“The family owned Amancer Restaurant is a great place to take visitors on holiday. In the summer the restaurant opens it’s swimming pool so you can amuse children easily while you are having lunch. It has the best paella in town. You can order the ‘horno’ paella here and it arrives smoking hot and served with fabulously fresh crusty bread. The ali oli is home made and the Tiramisu is excellent. Recommend booking in advance for weekends in the summer as it is very popular with Spanish families.” Jan G. March ’08

Bon Appetite Restaurant in the Arenal area of Javea – “We have been to Javea 5 times and have always enjoyed Bon Appetite restaurant (we didn’t go last year so I hope it’s still open) usually they have 4 or 5 starters and Mains mainly English, something for everyone all freshly cooked. Price is about 15 Euro’s with 1/2 bottle of wine. Its only a small place in a side street just off the Arenal more towards the port end, and you usually have to book (it’s always full). The owner is a guy called Francis who make you feel so welcome, he also does day trips into the mountains which is a good day out.” T.H. June ’08

“Area 1 cafe bar Plaza Almirante Bastarreche 3, Javea Port, behind the Miramar Hotel. I have eaten in this new bar a few times now and am very impressed.  They have a full bar, breakfast lunch and dinner are catered for.  The service is friendly and from the outside terrace you can see past the Miramar to the sea.

They also serve the best tortilla I have had in the seven years I have lived here, as well as homemade cakes which are worth breaking the diet for.

“This wonderful crescent shaped restaurant hangs out over the cliffside at Cabo La Nao, on the far side of Javea Bay. It has a 180% view of the sea, the rocky outcrops and some of the most splendid, luxury villas hidden from general view on the craggy cliffside. There is a safe outside balcony you can get to through the restaurant to take your photos and experience the feeling of soaring with the seagulls. The tables are tiered so everyone can enjoy the stunning views whilst eating. It is a wholly Spanish restaurant and their Menu del Dia is a little more expensive than normal but I am personally happy paying for the view as well! They are open for lunch and dinner but you will have to practise a few Spanish phrases because the staff do not speak English. Location, location, location…….need I say more!” Annie P. April ’08
