Hi everyone hope that you have all survived the storms. We had a mini tornado and if anyone finds a pair of white Marks and Spencer (Bridget Jones) knickers hanging around they are mine……….blew of the line with other items. The chef said he saw a guy using them as a parachute hmmmmmmmmmm. Anyway now for other exciting things………..that’s if you can cope after thinking about my knickers!

Firstly sorry to say but we are closed the 10th, 11th and 12th October for a much needed break.

We are holding a Clairvoyant night on the 16th October and only have a few tickets left so please contact me if you wish to attend.

The Rotary Club are back from their summer break and will be meeting here for lunch on Tuesday 6th October if you are interested please give us a ring.

We are arranging another Murder Mystery evening for the 31st October.

The Quiz night has moved to Thursday evening, please book your table even if you do not wish to eat.

We have now started our three-course Curry Menu which is rather delicious and as always excellent value for money.

We have also had to put up the price of our Menu del Dia by 50 cents… sorry folks but needs must. I’m sure you wouldn’t really like to think of me having to resort to the N332 as a form of income………not that I would get a lot what with my Bridget Jones undies……….

Well I think that’s it for now and be good.

Pat, Colin, Stu and Kasha

Hi Folks

Yet another month has gone by……….doesn’t time go quickly,
before you know it Xmas will be upon us.

The Orange Grove is doing fine and during August we set a new
target of 64 customers through in one day…….so busy busy.

We continue to hold the quiz night every Wednesday evening so why
not give it a go and book a table. Plus any budding artists can
join in the oil painting class Wednesday lunchtime.

We have a couple of events planned for October, the first is a
Clairvoyant night and towards the end of the month a Murder Mystery
Evening.

I have been asked to arrange a School Dinners evening which I am
thinking about. It took me several days to get over the last one
as the pupils were so outragous and just plain naughty!

Please note that we are closed for a private party on Saturday
26th September.

Leading up to Xmas we will be offering a pre Christmas meal at a
reduced rate. Parties will need to be 10 or more.

Finally Colin has now set up a website for his new venture which
you can find at www.uktvinspain.net

Take care
Pat, Colin, Stu and Kasha.
Dont forget to book your table.

August 2009 Newsletter

Hi Everyone

This is the first official newsletter from The Orange Grove and we would like to begin by saying a big thank-you to all our customers for your support.

We would also like to thank everyone who attended our two Murder Mystery evenings which were a great success. We hope to arrange another one in October (not the same plot) so if you are interested please let us know.

For those who have not attended a Murder Mystery event we provide you with an information sheet which sets the scene plus details of your character.

The evening begins with a three course meal and then it is up to you to talk with others and find the clues to solve the crime. The tickets are 10.00euro. Dressing up is fun but not essential.
Also we want to congratulate all who attended the buffet and quiz for the HELP charity who I understand had a great time plus made a significant amount of money for the charity. Well done!

We now host a Wednesday quiz night which is run by a group from Els Poblets. Those who want to join the quiz can have a meal or just come along for a drink. If you don’t fancy the quiz you can always come along for a meal. Booking a table for the quiz or indeed a
meal is essential.

Plus we have a small painting class Wednesday lunch time. Newcomers are always welcome.

On a day to day basis we continue to offer our three course menu del dia at 5.95Euro both during the day time 1pm to 3pm and evening 6pm to 10pm. We are also offering a small Al a Carte menu for those who fancy something special. As always Sunday Roast is 1pm to 3pm beginning at 4.95 euro.

During the past months we have become increasingly busy and at times have been fully booked, which is great for us but not so good for those who we have had to turn away. We also have bookings for private parties when we need to close so please please contact us to make a reservation rather then being disappointed.

Well this week for me means making Xmas Cakes and Puddings which will be for sale later in the year after I have laced them with Brandy.. Don’t forget to place your order as last year I could not make them quick enough and even had an order Xmas Eve.

I also have some new jewelry items for sale so don’t forget to have a look when you visit us.

Finally for those customers who were around when the chef had his encounter with the meat slicer just to let you know that after a visit to the hospital he is now fine ……………… fingers do grow back again!

Once again thanks.

Pat, Colin, Stu (three fingered chef) and Kasha.

History of the Orange Grove Restaurant

Our restaurant was formally known as Casa German, which in the Valencian language means Brothers House.

The locals say that it is unlucky to change the name of a house. Although we have changed the name of the business to The Orange Grove our home above the restaurant continues to be called Casa German.

The building is over one hundred and twenty years old and was originally an old farmhouse (finca). The main dining room with the very large open fireplace was the living and sleeping area and the current kitchen was in fact the stables.

If you look at the outside wall by the roadside you will see a small heavy iron ring embedded in the wall which was used by visitors to secure their horses.

People tell us that there is a happy and warm ambiance to the restaurant and the gardens in the summer are an ideal place for a relaxed meal or just for drinks.

At the Orange Grove Restaurant we aim to provide you with excellent home made farmhouse fare. All our dishes are prepared on the premises using the freshest produce, we even grow some of our own vegetables and fruit.

Please be patient if you do not receive a McDonalds speed service but Stuart (our Chef) is ensuring that your food is fresh, well prepared and presented.

About Our Chef

Stuart Latham, began his career in catering over 20 years ago. He was the youngest Head Chef in the North West at the remarkable age of 19 years. He received the Emex Salon Culinaire Gold and Silver medals at Olympia.

Stuart spent 10 years working in a renowned restaurant in Wales and was the Executive Chef in the largest restaurant in Bahrain. He has lived in Spain for 7 years, and has been our Chef for 4 years.

The Menu

At the beginning of 2009, with the affects of the economic downturn throughout the world we took the decision to radically change our menu and pricing.

We now offer a one fixed price three course Menu at the remarkable price of 5.95 euros during the week and our traditional Sunday Roast starts at 4.95 euros.

Our Opening Hours

Closed Mondays
Tuesdays to Saturday 1.00 to 3.00 then 6.00 to 10.00 July to October

“We have been going to The Orange Grove restaurant for a few years. In winter they have a lovely open fire and in the summer you can sit out and admire the garden that Colin enjoys working in. The atmosphere is lovely, Pat always finds time to say hello and asks how you are etc. We also go to the Rotary meetings which are held there. The price of the meal is really mvery good value. Pat also makes her own jams and pickles, do try them they are mmmmmmmm lovely.”

Review from Susan Stevenson on 16th June 2009

“Visited your restaurant beg. of June after great recommendations. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, had the delicious liver and bacon, with the superb fresh vegetables. Puds far too decadent but delicious. Reasonably priced, excellent food. We have recommended it to lots more people. I have one suggestion, after our second visit we decided on the fish.. we found it disappointing, too bland for our taste and suggest an accompanying sauce would greatly enhance it! Just our opinion of course! Looking forward to our next visit.”

Review from Mikey and Joan on 8th June 2009

“Very impressed with the whole service. Fine food, well prepared in lovely surroundings. Would recommend to anyone.”

Review from Jean Bunn on 22nd May 2009:

“Excellent food. Try the new Menu del Dia for €5.95. Best Value Food around. Sunday Lunch is fantastic, real vegetables and wonderful huge Yorkshire Puddings for people who are homesick for their Sunday Roast, best in the area!!”

Comments from Patrick on 22nd May 2009:

Totally agree. Wonderfull food and lovely atmosphere. You must give them a ring to book as this place is not surprisingly very popular. At the moment open from 1pm to 8pm. 96 578 8306

Review from Annie P. in April 2008:

“This delightful English restaurant is on a bend in the road, in amongst the orange and grapefruit groves, hence it’s name. There is a reasonable amount of parking on site and the possibility of more in a side street off the main Denia/Els Poblets road.

The restaurant is awash with fairy lights at night and has a beautifully designed ‘Orangy’ sign hanging like an old fashioned pub sign which is easily visible day and night.

The interior is reminiscent of an old English pub and has an open log fire in the winter. Additionally the owners Colin and Pat have added a very well put together extension with heavy duty plastic sides that roll up in summer but can be unfurled if it’s particularly windy. There are free standing patio heaters in the extension for chilly days.

The menu is predominantly famous English dishes with a few additional international favourites. Their vegetables are particularly good crisp, fresh and tempting rather than mushy and overcooked!

Colin and Pat offer themed evenings from time to time, excellent traditional Sunday Lunches and the best ever Christmas Day Lunch with ALL the trimmings that starts at 1pm and goes on…….for as long as it takes! Xmas 2007 they had a flamenco dancer to entertain during the Christmas Pudding!

Eating there is a lovely way to combine the nostalgia of England with the Orange Groves of Valencia! Open evenings, with occasional lunch times, ring and ask! Bookings required.”
