Benissa is one of the oldest town on the Costa Blanca. It is a popular tourist destination due to it’s location on the coast and wonderful weather and climate.  Benissa’s old town retains a lot of history and monuments with many small winding, cobbled streets.

Benissa merges into the town of Moraira to the north and merges into Calpe to the south. It enjoys a very scenic rugged coastline of over 4 kilometres with rocky coves, cliffs and mainly pebbled beaches. Benissa is only an hour north of Alicante airport and an hour and a half from Valencia airport.

Benissa is a popular tourist resort and being on the Costa Blanca coast you will almost always have a fish or shellfish dish on the menu. Because Benissa has such a diverse population with many expats living here there are restaurants catering to many different tastes and nationalities. Cooking standards are usually high and usually include fresh local produce and ingredients.

Obviously most restaurants in Benissa will be Spanish restaurants many of which will also serve international food or cuisine. The Spanish restaurants will serve tapas, local recipes and dishes that are unique to the Valencian region such as Paella. Also expect many meals to be based around seafood dishes due to the Costa Blanca bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

“Superb Mediterrarean cuisine expertly cooked and presented. The service is top class and the fish menu is outstanding. There is a recommended menu which carries something like six courses. The starter courses are set and include quite a lot of fish and seafood. You may then choose from three or four entrees and the desserts are also wonderful. A most impressive view from the window-side tables over the valley. Dinner for two at the Casa Canto can cost around 80 euros but go hungry you will not! One of those lovely treats that should be saved for birthdays and other special occasions. Casa Canto has won several awards and having dined there half a dozen times I would highly recommend a visit. It´s on the left going through Benissa from Teulada and there is parking available.” Mark G. April ’08
